Adin Ross and FaZe Banks plan crypto GTA 6 server, but It may not happen

Adin Ross and FaZe Banks plan a crypto-fueled GTA 6 server but face obstacles due to Rockstar’s anti-crypto policy.
Kick streamer Adin Ross has shared plans to create a special Grand Theft Auto 6 server with cryptocurrency features. He is teaming up with gaming influencer and FaZe Clan co-founder Richard "FaZe Banks" Bengtson. They want to build a server using crypto for transactions and in-game economy. But, this exciting plan could hit a big roadblock because of Rockstar Games’ rules against cryptocurrency in its games.
In a recent livestream, Ross said their GTA 6 server would be "completely crypto" and that they plan to put substantial money into making it happen. Banks mentioned that the server’s economy would use a "newly made coin." Their idea to bring crypto into the GTA 6 world is daring, yet Rockstar’s past of keeping crypto out of its multiplayer games indicates the project might not work out.
Rockstar’s history of banning crypto in GTA Online
Rockstar Games has made it clear that they don't want cryptocurrency, non-fungible tokens, or any blockchain assets in their games. Back in 2022, Rockstar banned players from using crypto or NFTs on GTA Online servers. This decision led to the shutdown of popular custom servers, like "The Trenches," a GTA 5 server with NFTs launched by rapper Lil Durk. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, also warned legally against adding blockchain so that attempts to include these in GTA Online were stopped.
This policy clashes directly with what Ross and Banks want, suggesting that Rockstar is unlikely to allow any crypto server for GTA 6. If they move forward with their plans, they could face legal issues from Take-Two Interactive, similar to what others have faced with crypto on GTA servers.
Even with Rockstar’s strong stance, there have been rumors for years about GTA 6 including cryptocurrency. Around 2021, leaks hinted at possible in-game Bitcoin-like transactions or crypto rewards. Some thought Rockstar could add a system where players could earn and trade cryptocurrency within the game world. However, Rockstar confirms GTA 6 development progress, and so far, there is no mention of crypto features. Players need to wait for more GTA 6 news to drop to know more about the features included in the game.
Take-Two Interactive’s relationship with crypto
Despite Rockstar's rules against crypto, its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has looked into blockchain gaming before. In 2022, Take-Two bought Zynga, a big name in mobile gaming, which was working on an NFT game called "Sugartown." Back then, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was positive about Web3 and its potential in gaming.
But by late 2024, Zynga's crypto gaming team split off to form its own company, D20 Labs. This move showed Take-Two was stepping back from blockchain gaming, allowing Zynga's ex-team to keep working on Web3 projects on their own.
This history tells us that even if Take-Two has tried blockchain gaming before, it is still unsure about fully going into it with main games like Grand Theft Auto. Since Rockstar is against crypto, GTA 6 probably won't have any official cryptocurrency features, which could be a problem for Ross and Banks’ plans.
Will Adin Ross’ GTA 6 crypto server survive
Despite the obstacles, Ross and Banks remain committed to their vision of a GTA 6 server powered by crypto. With their financial resources and influence in the gaming world, they might be able to create the server on their own, but Rockstar's rules are a big hurdle.
If they go ahead with the server launch, they could face the same issues as other crypto-linked GTA servers, like legal problems, shutdowns, and financial losses. Without Rockstar's green light, a crypto-based GTA 6 server might not last.
The gaming industry is changing, and views on cryptocurrency could evolve too. But given Rockstar's policies now, Ross and Banks' idea of a GTA 6 game with blockchain might not come true. Unless Rockstar changes its mind, their server may not get the chance to succeed.
Meanwhile, players looking for real GTA 6 updates and the latest Grand Theft Auto 6 news will have to wait for Rockstar Games GTA 6 announcement regarding its official features. For now, fans can only speculate on the latest GTA 6 release date news and whether crypto will ever play a role in the game.
